Beginner-friendly tutorials in small groups to learn about OpenEMS, assisted by experienced developpers. Participent should be well prepared with the basis of OpenEMS (architecture, Getting started)
O Professionals Program:
Topic 1: Resilient OCP connectivity with OpenEms (Main subject)
Design a resilient EV charging architecture that ensures uninterrupted site operation during cloud or network outages.
EV chargers communicate with a Charge Point Management System (CPMS) through a persistent WebSocket connection using the OCPP protocol. How can we combine a cloud-based management platform (vev-iq) with a local edge (OpenEMS) so that chargers remain manageable even if one system becomes unavailable? Investigate possible approaches such as DNS-based failover, certificate management, charger configuration, proxying, or other innovative resilience mechanisms.
Topic 2: OpenEMS Embedded Ul
Many OpenEMS deployments are integrated into larger software platforms, where users expect a unified interface. This topic aims to add an embedded mode to the OpenEMS Ul and backend, allowing the dashboard to be safely embedded into external applications while supporting authentication and Ul customization. The goal is to contribute a production-ready pull request (PR) to the OpenEMS project during the hackathon.
Topic 3: Modbus Passthrough for OpenEMS
Modbus follows a simple rule: only one master should coordinate requests and responses. When OpenEMS acts as the Modbus master, it prevents multiple systems from using the same Modbus devices.
Inspired by many solar data loggers, this topic explores a Modbus passthrough mode that allows external applications to access end devices natively through OpenEMS. OpenEMS remains the Modbus master, while other systems can forward Modbus requests through OpenEMS and receive the corresponding responses.
